These days, your PC has a number of USB ports to which you connect mouse, keyboard and other USB devices. You also use pen drive or external hard drives to connect the USB port. After plugging in the pen drive or USB drive, you receive this error message, USB device not recognized. If you are getting a " USB device not recognized error" error whenever you plug in a USB mouse, keyboard or other USB devices, you should read this article to solve this problem.

USB devices issues can occur different reasons.


For example, when we eject USB storage device without using "Safely Remove Hardware" option or after a program or Windows update or after a virus attack.



Follow the below steps to fix this problem.

No need to edit the registry, uninstall drivers or anything. 


For Desktops :


Step 1. Shutdown your computer in the normal way and unplug the power supply.

Step 2. Leave your computer without power supply for 15 minutes.

Step 3. Turn on your computer and boot to windows.

You will see your USB problem has solved.

Step 1. Shutdown your computer.

Step 2. Take the battery out carefully.

Step 3. Leave your computer without power supply for 15 minutes.

Step 4. Put the battery back in the laptop.

Step 5. Start the computer.

Disable USB ports on Windows PC via Registry

I am going to tell you a trick using which you can disable the USB ports of your computer. Using this trick on your computer, you can disable the USB ports of your system.

Follow the below steps to use this trick :


Step 1. Click on Start > Run.

Step 2. If you cannot find Run, type Run in the search box.

Step 3. Type "regedit" and press ok, this will launch registry editor.

Step 4. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\usbstor.

Step 5. In the work area, double click on start.

Step 6. When you double click on start, Value Data box will open.

Step 7. In the Value Data box, enter 4.

Step 8. Click on ok.

Step 9. Close Registry Editor and refresh your desktop.



Enable USB ports 

To enable the USB ports follow the same process but in the Value Data box, type 3 to the place of 4.


Try this trick yourself, this trick works on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8.

Note : This trick also disables access to your USB connected devices. So, do not use this trick if you have USB connected keyboard, mouse and other devices.
